The Project
Sa Pizzedda is a popular Milanese street food brand known for its single-portion, Sardinian-style pizza folded like a wallet for easy eating on the go. As a freelancer, I participated in an open contest to redesign their brand identity. The goal was to make the brand feel modern, tasty, crispy, bold, and playful. With these objectives in mind, the process began with thorough research into the brand, its target audience, and Sardinian culture. The outcome is a bold, modern aesthetic rooted in Italian modernism and Sardinian heritage.
The Details
Every element of the branding is carefully thought through and carries deep meaning behind it. The color palette is a modernized version of the previous identity, simplifying the scheme to increase overall brand recognition. Inspired by traditional Sardinian masks and the gesture of eating a pizzedda by hand, the logo strikes a balance between heritage and playfulness. The entire visual language draws inspiration from modernism and the work of Fortunato Depero and Bruno Munari, two iconic figures in Italian design and art history. A crucial requirement from the client was a simple, scalable branding system that could easily support their planned store expansion while maintaining high recognition. This effective identity achieves that by utilizing the logo itself as a distinctive decorative element. I handled the entire project independently, managing everything from initial research to the final concept presentation.
